Pakistan and Australia whenever these 2 teams step on cricket field, one thing is guaranteed is fiery competition as Pakistan always bring their A game against Australia and have decent success against them, but kangaroos are kangaroos, and in World Cup, everyone knows Australia means only one thing, that is business from ball1.
1) Reliance World Cup 1987 – Pakistan reached the semifinal in the Reliance World Cup 1987.
Australia batted first and posted 267 runs on the scorecard which certainly was not out of reach of Pakistan at the innings break.
Javed Miandad and captain Imran Khan played good knocks of 70 and 58 runs but couldn’t keep up with the run rate required.
Pakistan fell short by 18 runs in 49 overs. But still a good game for the cricket fans.
2) Benson Hedges World Cup 1992 – Played in Perth in Australia, Pakistan batted first and only managed 220 runs.
But Pakistan bowling comprised of Wasim Akram, Aaqib Javed and Mushtaq Ahmed saw Australia bundled up on only 172 runs.
A good revenge from Pakistan after a defeat in the last semifinal.
3) ICC World Cup 1999 – The two team met again in 1999 and this time it was everything to play for. But Pakistan choked in the final, scoring only 132 runs.
Late Shane Warne picked up 4 wickets and chased down the score in 20 overs, making sure they have enough time for celebration.
4) ICC World Cup 2011 – Pakistan had bitter memories from 1999 World Cup final and they certainly meant business when they encountered Kangaroos in the 40th match of the World Cup.
Pakistan bowlers gave team performance and all the bowlers chipped in with wickets, restriciting Kangaroos to just 176 runs, which was chased eventually in 41 overs by Pakistan.
5) ICC World Cup 2019 – Now it was Kangaroos turn to give up back to Pakistan and they gave it in style as they defeated Pakistan by significant 41 runs margin.
Batting first, Australia made 307 runs and in reply, Pakistan was all out for 266 runs in 45.4 overs. 26 balls still remaining for getting those 41 runs but all the 10 were back in the dugout.
Shoaib Malik scored 0 runs batting in the middle order, and that would have hurt Pakistan.
