4 Cricket stadiums in India which will be hosting World Cup matches for the very first time

Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad: The stadium of maximum capacity which can easily adjust 1,32,000 people at once, Narendra Modi Stadium will be hosting the World Cup matches for the very first time. Though its not a new stadium and its renovated old Motera stadium with previous capacity of 48000 people.

The stadium will host 5 matches with World Cup opener and World Cup final also being the part of it. Not to forget the high voltage clash between India and Pakistan on 14th of October, will also take place in Narendra Modi Stadium.

This is not the first time Ahmedabad is hosting the matches, before that matches happened in Ahmedabad in 1987,1996 and 2011.

Maharastra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, Pune: The 37000 capacity MCA stadium will also host World Cup matches for the very first time. Starting with India vs Bangladesh, MCA will host 5 matches.

But this is not the first time, Pune will be hosting World Cup matches. Pune hosted World Cup matches in 1987 and 1996.

Previously, Pune hosted matches at the Nehru Stadium, which is home to the Maharastra Cricket Association.

Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad – Also known as Uppal stadium as its located in Uppal, which comes under east hyderabad, the 55000 capacity will host two matches of Pakistan and one match of Newzealand.

This is also though not the first time, hyderabad will be hosting World Cup match.

In 1987 and 1996, Lal Bahadur Shashtri Stadium in hyderabad hosted World cup matches.

Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow – With a decent capacity of 50000 and opened in 2017, Ekana stadium will host 5 of the World cup matches which also includes India vs England game.

Ekana name is not based on the place, but ‘Ekana’ is a Sanskrit word that translates as ‘one’ or ‘unity’. And later it was accepted by government of Uttarpradesh.

This will be the first time Lucknow will be hosting World cup match, preiously Green Park in Kanpur hosted World cup matches in 1987 and 1996.
