He will soon become famous among them, so for occasional cricketers, carrom ball is like what sets you apart from the general public.

But having said that, its a great delivery that needs lot of hard work behind to bowl it.

So Who invented carrom ball?

Well lets first talk about what carrom ball it is. Not much can be learnt from reading but for beginners it is bowled with bent middle finger and it flicks like you flick a carrom striker, the ball gets away turn for a right hander.

Now we know the basics of it, and we also know the most famous bowler who bowled it and bowled it very well against India is Ajanatha Mendis.

Ajantha Mendis created a storm when he single handedly won the Asia cup for Srilanka in 2008.

But carrom ball has been there for a long time, its just spinners didn’t excel the art of it or were not confident about bowling such delivery.

Caroom ball was invented by Jack Iverson in 1940 and one decade later it was again put in action by John Gleeson, both the Australian spinners.

The highest wicket taker among left handed spinners, Rangana Herath also bowled a carrom ball variation in 1999, but after that he didn’t use that delivery much often.

Ajantha Mendis popularised it and in India Ashwin used it to the good effect.

But the presence of video analysis can easily help the team to prepare against such rare deliveries, thats what happened with Ajantha Mendis, but still its a good delivery to have in your armery.
