Pakistan and Srilanka are the top teams in Asia along with India. Whenever both the teams compete each other, each player has to bring their A game, as there is not a inch to give away.
Lets look at how the matches between these two Asian giants turned out in World Cup –
1) Prudential World Cup 1983 – Pakistan had a blast batting first against Srilanka in the 2nd match of the Prudential World Cup.
Pakistan made 338 runs from 50 overs, and in reply Srilanka did try to get near to that total, but can only managed to get to 288 runs, thereby getting a defeat by 50 runs.
A healthy win for Pakistan.
2) Reliance World Cup 1987 – This 1st match of Reliance World Cup was more of level game between the two.
Pakistan once again batted first and scored 267 runs.
Javed Miandad played superbly for his 103 of just 100 balls.
In reply Srilanka felt short of 15 runs as they were all out for 252 runs in 49.2 overs.
Aravinda Desilva played a quickfire innings of 42 runs of 32 balls but it was not enough.
3) Benson hedges World Cup 1992 – Once again Pakistan got the better of Srilanka as they chased down target of 216 in the final over.
4) ICC World Cup 2011 – This time also Pakistan won against Srilanka by 11 runs.
Batting first Pakistan made 277 runs and in reply, Srilanka got to 266 runs only.
