New zealand and Srilanka are very contrast teams. Apart from Daniel Vettori, New Zealand never had any good spinner in their side, now they have Mitchell Santner but still black caps were never known for being a spin heavy team like Srilanka.
Batting wise, both teams didn’t have big names but their batsman know how to get the job done.
Let see how both the teams played against each other when they came face to face in the bigest of tournaments –
1) ICC World Cup 2019 – The latest encounter between the two teams in ICC World Cup 2019 had been one sided affair.
Srilanka batting first was all out for just 136 runs and Martin Guptill and Colin Munro chased it down without loosing a wicket.
2) ICC World Cup 2015 – Newzealand once again turned up on the winning side as they registered a win by siginificant 98 runs.
Batting first, Kiwi batsman put a huge score of 331 runs which was more than enough for Sri lanka as they were all out for just 233 runs, getting no where to the total required.
3) ICC World Cup 2011– Sri lanka were the runner up in 2011 World Cup so that means they got the better of Kiwis in the 38th match of ICC World Cup 2019, played at Wankhede.
New Zealand got a total of 266 to chase but its always the 260-270 chase that are hard to get in big tournaments.
New Zealand was bundled up on only 153 runs, giving Sri lanka a win by 112 runs.
4) ICC World Cup 2007 – Sri lanka was the runner up of 2007 World Cup too and that means once again Kiwis found themselves on loosing side.
New Zealand batting first scored 219 runs which was chased easily with in 45.1 overs.
5) ICC World Cup 2003– Sri lanka once again won the 3rd match of ICC World Cup 2003 against New zealand by 47 runs.
Sri lanka batting first put a competitive total of 277 runs and Kiwis in reply got all out for 225 runs in 45.3 overs.
