According to reports Sri Lanka’s T20 captain Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of IPL 2024 due to an injury. Having said that SRH’s bowling coach Muralitharan said that the management is clueless about Hasranga’s availability for the tournament
The Dilemma
In the words of Muralitharan “In the auction, we bought one of the best leg-spinners, Hasaranga. He is struggling with some niggles. He is hoping to join from 4th or 5th (April). It’s a question mark from our side whether he comes or not.”
The Injury
During the start of IPL, it was reported that Hasarang would miss the initial few matches for SRH and would be available in the second half of the tournament but now it is being reported that the leg spinner might miss the entire season due to the injury.
The Optimism
On the other hand, Hasaranga’s manager is optimistic of him being fully fit and available.” He will join sooner than later,” his manager told Cricbuzz on Friday even as Sunrisers Hyderabad awaits integration with the franchise. The manager though could not reveal a timeframe when he would be in Hyderabad. “All I can say is he will definitely join the team.”
The Message
On the other Sri Lanka cricket Board’s CEO said that Hasaranga has already told the board that he will miss the IPL in order to be fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup. “He is not taking part in the IPL as he needs to do some rehabilitation after meeting the podiatrist. There’s a swelling in the heel, and he has been playing with injections. So he has decided to get this issue sorted out before the World Cup and informed us of his decision to skip the IPL this year,” Sri Lanka CEO Ashley de Silva told The Sunday Times.
Wanindu Hasaranga’s manager has assured that the player will be joining SRH “sooner than later” but could not provide a specific timeframe.
