naveen ul haq

Lucknow Super Giants’ Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has become the talk of the town, albeit for the wrong reasons, after he was involved in an on-field skirmish with former Indian skipper Virat Kohli during his side’s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 23-year-old pacer has become an overnight sensation

Here’s a quick look on Naveen-ul-Haq.

ODI career

made his international debut for Afghanistan during their tour of Bangladesh in 2016. The then 17-year-old pacer was not able to impress on his debut as he was taken for 62 runs in his ten overs in his first appearance in ODI cricket. He has played just six ODIs for his country since his debut, with his last appearance coming in 2021.

T20 International

However, the right-arm pacer grew in confidence in the coming years and was handed a T20I debut in 2019. Although he ended up on the losing side in his first match in the shortest format of the game, Naveen impressed with his control and guile, especially with the old ball. A run of impressive performances with the ball has made him a regular feature of the T20I side.

Franchise cricket

Naveen-ul-Haq also played franchise cricket around the globe and represented teams like Guyana Amazon warriors, Quetta Gladiators, Sydney Sixers , Khulna Tigers as well. Not only he represented but also had some heated exchange of words among players as well. He had a heated rival with Mohmmad Amir, Thisara Parera & now Virat Kohli as well. The 23 Year old did show consistent in bowling but aggressive nature as well.

In one of his interviews, Naveen praised the Indian pacer and said that he would be glad if he could become half the bowler that Jasprit Bumrah is. In an interview to News9, he said, “I admire him as a bowler. Such a cool and calm customer of the game. The way he carries himself even in the toughest of situations is a great example to learn from. I will be glad if I even become 50 percent of the bowler he is.”

Though he’s been dealing with controversies & criticism in one end from heaps of praise from another, he’s age in his side and wealth of experience he’s gaining by playing global cricket that will surely make him another solid prodigy from Afghanistan
