K Jayaram who captained Kerala state in Ranji trophy, passed away due to a cardiac arrest on Saturday. He was aged 67.
He played 46 first matches between 1977 and 1989. Jayaraman was Kerala’s captain, and served as Kerala cricket’s chairman of selectors, He has also served as a national junior selection committee member. He was deemed one of the finest batters of Kerala back in the day.
“Kerala didn’t have many cricketing talents in those days. But Jayaraman was different. He was an extremely good cricketer and an even better individual. He was a very friendly man and had an eye for talent as a selector. I just learnt about his demise, and I offer my deepest condolences to his family,” the BCCI President, Roger Binny was quoted as saying by TOI.
During his domestic career, he once scored a century against Karnataka and received praise from Gundappa Vishwanath. “I think the century against Karnataka was my best. The appreciation I received from Gundappa Viswanath soon after my ton is one of the most cherished moments of my playing career.” He quoted when he spoke to one of the media publications before in a interview.
For Kerala in particular, its a big loss as he was one of the first player to be ever highlighted from Kerala and was in contention to play international cricket. He had an eye for talent and he excelled in his role as selector. We offer the prayer for the peace of his soul.
Jayaram is survived by his son, Abhay, and wife, Rama.
