The game of cricket needs no introduction to the children of cricketers who idolize their father since childhood. Their father is their first coach who tries to induct cricketing knowledge through his vast experience about the game. We recently saw Pakistan legend Moin Khan’s son Azam Khan make his ODI debut for Pakistan against England. In this article lets discuss five such upcoming cricketers who are the sons of national veterans and may play for the national side in the near future.
The first name in the list is of Arjun Tendulkar. Arjun, the son of the Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, is an all-rounder who has made a name for himself with his left arm pace bowling. He had been selected for the Mumbai U-19 squad and has been seen bowling in the nets to the Indian team on a few occasions and is currently even the part of Mumbai Indians IPL franchise. Arjun bowled in the nets to the England Test team earlier when his yorker hurt England’s Jonny Bairstow ahead of the Test series against South Africa. He will certainly be looked upon by the selectors as a left-arm pacer in the future as he has the ability to ball fast.
The second name in the list is Samit Dravid. Samit, who’s the son of the legendary batsman and the current coach of Indian team in Sri Lanka, Rahul Dravid. Although Samit is pretty young, he is an early starter and a classic batsman for his age. He has already scored two double centuries in the school stage itself, and is known for his explosive batting. He is also a decent bowler, and has many times single-handedly won the match for his team. We as fans definitely cannot wait for this generation of the Dravid family to take the field in national colours and to make us proud just like his father did for such a long tenure.
The third name in the list is Aryan Bangar, who is the son of our ex Indian player and batting coach Sanjay Bangar. He recently made news when it came to light that India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun was providing the batsman with tips at a young age. Aryan has shown a lot of promise, representing Puducherry in the National U-19s (Cooch Behar Trophy) and scoring 300 runs in five games. He registered a brilliant 150 and two half-centuries and even picked up 20 wickets at an excellent average. Aryan currently plays junior-county cricket for for Leicestershire and is one of their marquee batsman.
The fourth name in the list is Armaan Jaffer. The son of ex Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has made several rounds on the internet for his swashbuckling batting as he slammed three consecutive double hundreds and thus averaged an incredible 223.75 in the Cooch Behar Trophy. The youngster was also in the Kings XI Punjab squad of 2016 and has accomplished quite a lot in his novice career but doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon and has compelling capability of donning the blues in the future.
The fifth and the last name in the list is of Austin Waugh, the son of legendary Australian batsman and skipper Steve Waugh. Austin had been selected in the Australian squad for the Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand in January 2018. Austin is an all rounder like his father, bats in the middle order and bowls medium pace. Austin has a stellar record in first class/ domestic cricket and is one of the frontrunners of making a debut for the national team in the coming time.
