Cricketers With Musical Talent

There is hardly any person in this world who doesn’t listen to music and cricketers are no different. Many cricketers are multi-talented and after retiring some have gotten into acting, some have opened their school and some have started their enterprise. In this article we will talk about those cricketers who have done something in the field of music.

DJ Bravo – The singer of the famous ‘Champion’ song has sung many songs and many of them have been liked by the listeners. He has a penchant for singing and releases his songs occasionally. The West-Indian player is probably the most famous singer among those who have cricketing background.Being a part of CSK from many years he also sang for a Tamil movie named ‘Ula’. I think the post retirement plan for Bravo is quite decided!

Brett Lee – The Aussie ‘Speedster’ whose tearaway fast- bowling used to haunt batters has tried many things after retirement. He acted in a movie called ‘Unindian’ and is also a part of a rock band named Six and Out. The band was formed by his brother and also consists of many other players from the New South Wales team. Brett used to play acoustic guitar or bass guitar in the band. He has also recorded a song with Indian Legendary singer Asha Bhosle in 2006 known by the name ‘You are the one for me’. It topped the music charts and became popular.

Suresh Raina – The Indian batter who was perhaps one of the best fielders India has seen is hugely fond of singing. In many interviews he has expressed his love for the retro hindi songs of Kishor Kumar and Mohammad Rafi.He has a melodious voice also and has sung many times on stage. In a movie “Meeruthiya Gangsters” in which he also acted, Suresh sang a song titled ‘Tu mili sab mila’. His wife was the producer of the movie and insisted he sing a song.

Sachin Tendulkar – The Batter with the most number of runs in the world is also fond of music. He has mentioned how much he used to love hearing the songs of Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and other legendary singers. Sachin has also sung a song with Sonu Nigam titled ‘Cricket Wali Beat’ for promotion of his platform called 100 MB. The song was quite popular and was liked by many.

Virendra Sehwag – The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ who used to hammer the bowlers from the very first ball is a very good singer. Sourav Ganguly shared in an interview that Sehwag used to sing Kishore Kumar songs while batting on crease. Even in a tense situation on the field Sehwag used to sing songs which used to surprise the batter on their side.

MS Dhoni – The most successful Indian Captain who was also a great batter as well is also an avid listener of old hindi songs sung by Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore Kumar. He also loves singing. He once sang ‘Salaam-e-ishq’ on stage in front of a huge audience along with Bhojpuri actor-singer Manoj Tiwari.

AB Devilliers – The Mr. 360 who revolutionized the cricket with some of his breathtaking shots is widely considered the one of the best batters who have played the game. The South-African legend is also an ardent music lover. He is an accomplished Guitar player and a singer. In 2010 he also released a bilingual pop album named ‘Maak Jou Drome Waar’ with his friend and popular acclaimed singer Ampie Du preez. Indeed there is nothing on this planet that AB cannot do.

Sanjay Manjrekar – The former Indian player who is currently a commentator, has represented India in more than 100 matches. Many of his teammates considered Sanjay to be the best singer in the team. He has mentioned his liking for Bengali music. He has also recorded an Indipop album named ‘Restday’ in which he sang his favorite songs as well as some of his teammates favorites.He has also sung in many Bengali movies.

Harbhajan Singh – The ‘Turbanator’ whose doosra and off-break used to bamboozle the batters has tried many different things apart from cricket in the last few years. He recently acted in a Tamil movie called “Friendship”. Apart from acting Bhajji also loves to sing. In 2013 he released an album called ‘Meri Maa’. He dedicated this album to his mother. It had emotional songs which were in Punjabi and was liked by many listeners.

Irfan Pathan – The Left arm swinging bowler who gained huge popularity in the early 2000s has represented India in all the three formats. He was an all-rounder and has opened the batting for Indian team a few times. Irfan has a very good voice. During one of the pre-match shows Irfan beautifully sang ‘Aye mere humsafar’ from the movie ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’ while Brett Lee played guitar for that song.
