Sachin has many records to his name. Most number of centuries, most number of runs, but there is an unfortunate record Master Blaster is also part of which deprived him of 18 more centuries.

The nervous ninetees. 18 of those.

It took him 104 matches in ODIs to registered his first nervous ninetees against Australia, but in the later part of the year he saw lot of them. In 2007, he had 3 nervous ninetees in 5 matches.

Lets look at all the innings of Sachin when he got out on nervous ninetees and in particular how he got out :-

1) February 27,1996, Wills World Cup 1996 :- A nervous ninetees in World Cup to begin with for the master blaster.

Chasing 258 runs of Australia, Sachin Tendulkar played a splendid innings of 90 runs in 84 balls. Sanjay Manjrekar did try to form a partnership with 91 balls 60 but India got all out at 242.

Sachin Tendulkar was stumped out trying to take charge on part time Mark Waugh. A selfish knock.

2)December 11, 1997, Akai Singer Chamopions Trophy, Sharjah – Famously called as “Desert storm”, Sachin unarguably played some of the best knocks of his career in Sharjah.

A last over thriller for fans as India chased 250 runs of England.

Sachin who came to bat at number 4, once again took on the opponent from ball 1 as he made 91 runs of 87 balls. Once again stumping, as he tried to score maximum of Mathew Fleming, a medium pace bowler. Jadeja also played a 69 balls 50 runs knock but India got all out in the 50th over with 7 runs behind.

3)Jan 14 1998, Silver Jubilee Independence Cup, Dhaka – 212 to chase against the favorite opponent Pakistan, Sachin and Saurav came out with very clear indications, is to finish the match as early as possible.

Sachin went all guns blazing, with a 78 balls 95 runs before being bowled by Shahid Afridi at the team score of 159 in 25th over.

India went on to win the match quite easily.

4)Jan 21, 2000, Carlton & United States :- 262 to chase against Pakistan, Sachin and Saurav knew they had a challenging task up their sleeves.

Sachin made 93 of 103 balls before being bowled by Pak allrounder Abdul Razaak.

India didn’t saw good contributions from anybody else except Saurav Ganguly who made 43 runs and lost the match by 32 runs.

5)March 19, 2000, Nagpur :- It was time for Indian fans to witness the most tragic event live as they witnessed Sachin got out at 93 of just 89 balls.

If it was not enough, India went on to loose the match by 10 runs with 7 balls remaining.

6)June 1, 2000, Asia Cup, Dhaka :- With a second best high score of 24 from 44 balls, Sachin was left crippled at other hand as he made 93 runs of 95 balls.

India got no where close to Srilanka’s score of 276 runs and lost the match by 71 runs.

7)March 1, 2003, ICC World Cup, Centurian :- It was the World Cup time against Pakistan. Sachin played a famous innings of 98 of 75 balls before getting out to a nasty bouncer from Shoaib Akhtar.

8)March 10, 2003, ICC World Cup,Johanesberg – Just 9 days after, Sachin had another dismissal in 90s as he fall to part timer Arvinda Desilva playing his favorite paddle sweep.

9)October 25, 2005, Nagpur :- Sachin only had himself to blame as he got out on 93 on a batting pitch in a no pressure match.

Driving away from his body to a good out swinger from Mahroof, Sachin missed out on a well deserved hundred.

10)February 13, 2006, Lahore :- India toured Pakistan when Manmohan was the Prime minister of India in 2006.

This particular match India won easily chasing 288 runs but Sachin would have regretted not converting his score of 95 into a century.

11)June 26, 2007, Belfast :- 90s hurt but what hurts most to a batsman is getting out on 99 and master blaster has walked that road multiple times.

Batting first, Indian batsman found it hard against tight bowling of South Africa, Sachin worked hard for his 98 runs of 142 balls. The next ball he pushed to the cover thinking he can run his way to a hundred only to find himself stranded by few yards as he was run out on 99.

12)June 29, 2007, Belfast – Just 2 days after Sachin got another shot to score a century but this time also he got out on 93 runs.

One thing though to cheer for him this time was India comfortably winning the match by 6 wickets.

14)Sep 5, 2007,London In the beautiful city of London, Sachin got another shot yet again to score a century. But such was this particular phase, Sachin yet again got out in nervous ninetees.

A quickfire 94 runs of 81 balls before falling to Monty Panesar. India won the match in the final over chasing 316 runs.

15)Nov 08, 2007 – 2 months later, Sachin yet again got his chance to finally score a hundred, but 2007 is the year Sachin would certainly want to forget as he missed out on the century yet again, this time against Pakistan in front of the home crowd of Mohali.

99 again for Sachin and salt to the wounds as Pakistan chased down 321.

16)Nov 15, 2007, Gwaliar :- 7 days later, Sachin looked like lost hope on reaching the 3 figure mark as he was bowled by Umar Gul on 97. A easy win for India but Sachin fans certainly had hard time watching him batting in 90s now.
