Delhi Capitals is not the most popular of the franchise. The presence of not so big players in Delhi can be one reason but the major reason is their performance on the field.
With huge names in dugout in the names of Ponting and Saurav Ganguly, atleast 90s fans will expect the team to put on a better show in the middle.
Their team from time to time has featured some young names. In the name of Lalit Yadav, Aman Khan, Ricky Bhui, Ripal Patel they have tried some young names too in their squad but none of these names have performed any good in the middle which raise some questions about the talent scout of Delhi and the roles of Ponting and Ganguly.
Rishabh Pant has performed decently on his return to international cricket but Delhi team never ever looks like they can win the IPL, even the play offs seems a distant dream for the team.

Some fans even went on to say that Ponting contract should not have been extended after 2021 ..

Well it will be unfair to say that Ponting and company has done a good job with Delhi Capitals because the numbers say otherwise, also there has not been a single player scouted from Delhi management who had went on to play for India or atleast were on the lines of India selection says about their weak talent scout group too while Mumbai had Hardik, Tilak.
Even RCB has scouted some good talents in the name of Akash Deep and Mahipal Lomror, Harshal Patel.
Ponting before the start of the tournament said that its his 8th season with Delhi Capitals and if they don’t win or atleast play in finals, then he will agree that he failed in his job as coach of Delhi Capitals after spending 8 years in India’s capital.
