Titas Sidhu is an upcoming Indian women’s cricketer who has made rapid strides in international cricket since making her debut in 2023. The right-arm medium pacer from West Bengal is seen as one of the promising young talents in the Indian women’s cricket team. At just 18 years of age, Sadhu has already represented India at the senior international level and played a key role in helping the country win gold at the 2022 Asian Games.
Sidhu’s background and early career
Born on 29th September 2004 in Chinsura, West Bengal, Sidhu developed an interest in cricket from a young age. She attended the Techno India Group Public School and started playing cricket locally. At the age of 16, her impressive performances in domestic cricket earned her a call-up to the senior Bengal women’s team. In 2023, Sadhu was part of the Indian team that won the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. She was named Player of the Match in the final for her economical bowling that helped restrict the opposition.
Debut for India women’s team
After consistent performances in domestic cricket and age-group cricket, Sidhu received her maiden national call-up in 2023 for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. On 24th September 2023, she made her T20I debut for India against Bangladesh. In just her first international match, Sidhu impressed with tight bowling and finished with figures of 1/13 from her four overs. She continued her good form throughout the tournament and ended up playing a pivotal role as India defeated Sri Lanka in the final to win gold.
Standout performances
One of Sidhu’s best performances for India came in the gold medal match against Sri Lanka at the 2022 Asian Games. She bowled a tight line and length and picked up the key wickets of Harshitha Madavi and Nilakshi de Silva to derail the Sri Lankan innings. Her figures of 2/13 from four overs were instrumental in restricting the opposition to a low total which India chased down comfortably to be crowned Asian champions.
She followed it up with superb 4 wicket hall against the most strongest women team, Australia bowling economically as well giving just 17 runs in 4 overs.
Domestically, Sidhu has consistently picked up wickets for Bengal and earned a contract with the Delhi Capitals franchise for her all-round skills.
At such a young age, Sidhu has shown promising signs with both bat and ball. With her accuracy and ability to bowl tight lines, she has all the attributes to become a leading pacer for India in the coming years if she continues her current progress.
