Cricket has become a batters game, that is the statement we hear from lot of cricket experts nowadays. With rules bending in the favour of batsman, its not a totally false claim.
But sometimes even with the favorable outcomes, it becomes difficult to even get off the mark. The first run from the bat on a new day is always a relief no matter you struck the fastest century in the last game.
In IPL or in the shortest format, the frequency of getting out without disturbing the scorecard is higher, as you have to get going from ball one.
Lets look at the unfortunate names who have registered most ducks in the history of IPL:-
1)Dinesh Karthik :- Dinesh Karthik, now 38 will be playing his last IPL season this year. Dinesh Karthik had more success in his career after he got under the KKR coach Abhishek Nayar who gave him the much needed revival to his flat career.
In IPL, Dinesh has played some good innings from time to time, but one record he is unfortunately part of is most number of ducks in IPL history, and the number is 17 for Dinesh Karthik.
With his last season this IPL, he will certainly want to not let go this number any higher and only zeros he should be looking at are what comes in half and full century.
2)Rohit Sharma :- The former Deccan chargers player from where he began his journey of being a leader, is second in the list of most number of ducks. Just a number less from his very good friend Karthik, Nagpur born Sharma has 16 ducks to his name so far in the IPL seasons concluded.
3)Mandeep Singh :- After being part of IPL for 13 consecutive years from 2011 to 2023 and earning 10.7 crores from IPL contract, Mandeep Singh at 32, failed to impress any franchise in IPL auction 2024 because of his lacklustre performance in last season.
With only 6 fifties in 111 IPL matches, Mandeep Singh finds himself in the 3rd position for most number of ducks with 15 ducks in his IPL career.
4)Sunil Narine :- 14 innings without scoring for the mystery spinner. Narine was not known for his batting, but after the allegations of chucking and remembering his late father’s advice, he started working on his batting abilities adding one more dimension to his cricket skills.
He played some good knocks for KKR, but being aggressive from ball one has got him 14 ducks in his IPL career. With risk comes reward and some ducks too, 14 of them.
5)Piyush Chawla :- With an average of 31 in 136 first class matches, Chawla was borderline allrounder in the domestic cricket. In international cricket and in IPL though, he failed to create any magic with his bat and would have fancied Harbhajan Singh who had played some good cameos in his IPL career.
13 times Piyush Chawla had to walk back without scoring, who had a revive of his IPL career with Mumbai Indians after getting unsold in 2022 IPL auction.
