Final Scorecard : GT: 168/6, MI: 162/9, Gujarat Titans won by 6 runs.
Finally the much awaited clash of the IPL, Gujarat Titans turned out on the winning side, but a good match nonetheless.
1)Gujarat Titans turned out to be lucky as 168 was easily chasable with Mumbai Indians batting line up. Almost all their players contributed except Vijay Shankar but none of their batsman got to a big score and the strike rate was also just about good. GT certainly will look to put more runs on the board next time.
2)They are trying Azmatullah at number 4. The Afghanistan all rounder recently has scored a century along with Mohammad Nabi on a easy track agaisnt Srilanka in ODIs, but he is a proper batsman too, GT just want to reevaluate him at number 4 when Miller and Tewatia and Vijay Shankar are there. He had a good game today.
3)Mumbai Indians pacer proved costly.
Hardik was not looking in any rhythm and their new signing all muscles Luke Wood also had a rough start to his IPL career.
Shams Mulani got a game but there were not many wicket taking deliveries and will be interesting to see if Mumbai Indians persist with him in coming games. Chawla also was costly. Lot to worry for Mumbai Indians.
4) The debutant Naman Dhir looked promising and his 20 runs of 10 balls will help him to retain his place for next game.
5)Hardik Pandya used to play at number 4 for Gujarat Titans but for Mumbai Indians he is coming too down the order and he certainly will think for a second about his batting position with coach Boucher.
6)One interesting incident happened is when Tilak Varma denied single to Tim David that too in 16th over. He tried reverse sweep again for no run and then run one on the next ball. Total 3 balls wasted for 1 run when you could have run a single on the first ball. Didn’t help MI at all.
7)Gujarat Titans is a 12 member team with Ashish Nehra more actively involving from the boundary ropes than the players on field. He did talk with Spencer Johnson before his second over and some wise words from Nehra did wonders for Spencer and GT as he took 2 wickets in his second over.
8)Overall, it was Mumbai Indians match easily but Hardik is playing way down the order and we will surely see some change in batting order in the next games of MI.
