Manoj Tiwary has finally retired from first class cricket.
With his last IPL appearance in 2018 for Punjab Kings, Manoj Tiwari was the first one to get the international call when India was building a new team in 2007.
Tiwari missed his debut series against Bangladesh in 2007 when he injured his shoulder in net practice.
He played total of 12 innings in ODI with an average of 26 and 1 hundred and 1 fifty.
He continued to play for his home team in Ranji trophy till this season, where he averaged above 47 with more than 10000 runs to his name, but now he has decided that he is done as far as his cricket career is concerned.
Just after retiring, he has come all guns blazing at Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
“I would like to ask Dhoni why was I dropped from the playing XI in 2011 after scoring the century? I had the potential to be a hero just like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli but could not be. Today, when I see many people getting more opportunities on TV, I feel sad,” said Tiwary in an interview with News18.
Cricket is such a hard sport in India and if you are pure batsman, skill simply can’t take you places, you need some luck going in your way too, you need to perform at the right place and the right time. Tiwari thought he got the numbers backing him but lacked on support from Team India then captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Manoj Tiwari was not selected for 2012 commonwealth series in Australia and that marked the end of his international career.
He was a regular apperance in IPL though, earned around 22 crores in his IPL career till 2018, also played along side Dhoni in Pune Supergiants in 2017.
For now, Tiwari is enjoying a good political career and he was appointed minister of state for Affairs of Sports and Youth for Bengal, and he has the opportunity to make some influence of him in his home state at least, so that right talent does not get unnoticed.
