India have been thrashed hard by West Indies in the second ODI at Barbados. Batting first, Indian batsman never got to any start and were bundled to mere 181 runs, which was chased easily by West Indies in 36 overs.
This is very shameful defeat for India, with Rohit and Kohli rested for the match, India were playing no weaker team with Hardik, Jadeja, Surya Kumar Yadav all part of the squad.
But this is not first time it has happened and lately there have been more and more shameful defeats for India.
Lets look at the 5 instances where India faced similar shameful defeats which left their cricket fans tear-eyed :-
10 wicket loss to Pakistan in World t20 2021 – In ICC World T20 2021, Pakistan thrashed India by 10 wickets in World T20 2021, leaving Indian team and cricket fans devastated.
Chasing 151 runs, Pakistan made sure all their batsman remain in the dug out except their opening pair, as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan made the mockery of target and Indian cricket team. A dark night for Indian cricket team and his fans.o9
10 wicket loss to England in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 – Another shameful performance for India came in yet another T20 World cup 2022, and that too again by 10 wickets.
Another 10 wicket defeat, this time by England in the semifinal indicated Indian team certainly need to reassure their future plans.
1996 World Cup Semifinal – Another setback happened in 1996, when India was chasing 252 runs in Kolkata in the semifinal of the World cup, India got off to a flyer with Sachin scoring a half century, and it looked like a cake walk for India, but soon things went downhill after Sachin’s wicket and Indian team crashed like pile of cards with scorecard at 120 runs for eight wickets.
Match was abandoned after crowd went mad and starting throwing stones, set fire and Srilanka got their deserving final ticket.
5 wicket loss to Bangladesh in World Cup league game at Port of Spain, 2007 – India scored mere 191 runs which was chased with 9 balls remaining.
This defeat brought a lot of embarassment to Indian team and fans as India was kicked out of World cup 2007 under Dravid’s captaincy.
245 runs loss to Srilanka in 2000 – A 245 runs defeat with whole Indian team in the dugout leaving mere 54 runs on the scoreboard, in reply to Srilanka total of 299 runs with Sanath Jayasuriya scoring 189 runs, left many cricket fans crying that day.
Chaminda Vas with his 5 wickets made sure, Indian team and their fans need some therapy to recover from this massive loss of 245 runs and too in finals of Coca Cola Champions trophy.
A dark day in history of Indian cricket for sure.
5 Wicket loss against WestIndies 2023 – The latest addition in the list is 5 wicket loss to WestIndies in second ODI, 29 May 2023.
With Rohit Sharma and Kohli rested, India have all the other good players in form of Hardik, Jadeja, Suryakumar but still managed only 181 runs batting first, which was chased easily by WestIndies, who earlier this year failed to even qualify for ICC World Cup 2023.
Such a shame for Indian cricket team.
