With Coastline of 2092 kilometres, Oman sits on the right of Saudi Arabia in the map.
With not being too far away from cricket playing Asian countries, Oman too is trying to make big in cricket and they are progressing well, as they played the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 in Zimbabwe and they qualified for super 6 and stood 6th in the final table of 10 teams, out of which Netherland and Sri lanka qualified for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.
Oman team has lot of players of Indian origin. These players moved to Oman at an early age and there they start playing cricket and some eventually went on to play cricket for Oman national team.
Lets look at some of the Indian origin players who has represented Oman national cricket team:-
1)Jatinder Singh – The 35 year old Sikh cricketer was born in India, but later went to Oman in 2003 where his father was working in Royal Oman Police as carpenter.
Jatinder rose through domestic ranks and finally played for Oman at the age of 20.
He is still playing for Oman as opening batsman in ODI. He last played for Oman in the World Cup Qualifier 2023 against WestIndies.
With average of higher 20s in all formats, Jatinder certainly would have liked those numbers going up, but he still has some years left to his international career, and he will certainly want to finish his career on high.
2) Suraj Kumar – Born to a Nepalese immigrant family in Jalandhar, Suraj found the love in cricket when he moved to Oman as teenager in search of work.
Batting at number 6, he played a crucial not out innings of 53 from 65 balls to get Oman to a respectable score of 221 after early damage.
3) Kashyap Prajapati – Kashyap Prajapati, 28 year old also has Indian origins and he also played in the World Cup qualifier 2023.
He turned all heads with his splendid innings of 103 from 97 balls, chasing 332 against Zimbabwe in the super six stage of World Cup qualifier.
Oman eventually fell short by 14 runs, but they have witnessed an innings for the ages from their very own, Kashyap Prajapati.
4)Jay Odedara – The Porabandar born 35 year old cricketer also featured in the ICC World Cup qualifier 2023 for his off breaks.
He had a good game against UAE in World Cup qualifiers.
5) Sandeep Goud – The hyderabad born Sandeep plays in middle order for Oman. He played 2 games in World Cup qualifier 2023 but failed in making any impact.
