Two of the most favored kinds of entertainment in India are cricket and Bollywood. Both
have a sizable fan base and frequently affect one another. Bollywood stars have influenced
many cricket players, and vice versa.
Even some cricket players have dabbled in acting, whether it be in cameo roles, major roles, or supporting roles. The following is a list of some cricketers who have appeared in films:
Yuvraj Singh: The all-around star of the Indian cricket team has a history with Bollywood
that dates back to his early years. His father, Yograj Singh, is a well-known actor and former
cricketer. As a young actor, Yuvraj Singh appeared in numerous films like Mehndi Sagna Di,
Sachin: a Billion Dreams.
Ajay Jadeja: Ajay Jadeja, a former captain of India and one of the best fielders in the
world, made his Bollywood debut in the 2003 film Khel, starring alongside Sunny Deol and
Suniel Shetty. Additionally, he appeared in Annarth with Sanjay Dutt and Pal Pal Dil Ke
Saath with Vinod Kambli.
Kapil Dev: The renowned all-arounder and captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad
has appeared in a number of films, primarily in cameo parts. In films like Iqbal, Chain Kulii
Ki Main Kulii, Iqbal, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, and Stumped,83 he had an appearance.
Sunil Gavaskar: In addition to being one of the greatest batters of all time and a former
Indian opener, Sunil Gavaskar has also displayed his acting talents in motion pictures. He
made a cameo appearance in the 1988 film Malaamaal by Naseeruddin Shah and appeared
in the 1980 Marathi film Savli Premachi.
Salil Ankola: After his cricket career, the former Indian fast bowler, who made his Test
debut alongside Sachin Tendulkar in 1989, transitioned to acting. He portrayed a cop in the
films Kurukshetra, starring Sanjay Dutt, and Silence Please, starring Rahul Bose. He also
had appearances on TV programs including Bigg Boss 5 and Karam Apna Apna.
Brett Lee: In addition to being one of the world’s quickest bowlers, the Australian
speedster has dabbled in acting. In 1995, he played a farmer in the Australian film Babe. He
also played the lead role in Tannishtha Chatterjee’s Indo-Australian love comedy UnIndian.
Vinod Kambli: Vinod Kambli was Sachin Tendulkar’s boyhood friend and teammate. He
was renowned for his aggressive batting style. He also tried his hand at acting and starred
alongside Suniel Shetty and Ajay Jadeja in the films Anarth and Pal Pal Dil Ke Saath,
Irfan Pathan :Irfan Pathan is a swing bowler and useful batsman who has recently been added to the
list of cricketers who have appeared in films. In the Vikram-starrer Cobra, he made his
Tamil acting debut as the villain.
Mohsin Khan: Mohsin Khan was a well-known actor in addition to being a former opener
and selector for Pakistan. Before making his Bollywood debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s Saathi in
1991, he appeared in numerous Pakistani films. In the films Batwara and Dil Tujhko Diya,
he co-starred with Madhuri Dixit.
These cricket players are a few of those who have appeared in films. Sachin Tendulkar,
Harbhajan Singh, Sreesanth, Shikhar Dhawan, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni,
Virat Kohli, and Anil Kumble5 are some other cricketers who have made cameo or guest
roles in films. Bollywood and cricket have always had a close relationship, so it’s likely that
more players may try their hand at acting in the future.
