The men’s national cricket team of Papua New Guinea, also known as the Barramundis, is
the side that plays international cricket on behalf of the nation. Cricket PNG, an associate
member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 1973, is in charge of organizing the
team. One-Day International (ODI) status was formerly held by Papua New Guinea, which
obtained it by placing fourth in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.
After losing a playoff match against Nepal in the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which
gave their opponents ODI and T20I status, Papua New Guinea lost both their ODI and T20I
status in March 2018. In the 2019 ICC World Cricket League, Papua New Guinea defeated
Oman on April 26 to finish in the top four.
Papua New Guinea is now the sole team from the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier and the
fifteenth team to have qualified for the World Cup t20 2024.
After being sent in to bat, Tony Ura, Assad Vala, and Charles Amini all struck fast fifties, setting the stage for PNG to score 229for 6 in their 20 overs. Philippines’ pursuit total was merely 129 for 7.
The most recent squad to earn a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024, in the USA
and the West Indies, is Papua New Guinea. It is the sole team from the East Asia-Pacific
Qualifier and the fifteenth team to have qualified for the tournament.
Assad Vala, the captain of the national team, was born on August 5, 1987, in Papua New
Guinea. He is an off-spin bowler and left-handed batsman who has been a member of the
Papua New Guinea national squad since 2005.
Assad Vala is a significant figure in Papua New Guinean history and one of the nation’s true
native talents. Assad is a top order hitter with skill at the bat who likes to start the innings. He
began his career as a star in PNG cricket at the U19 level and quickly rose through the ranks
to become the national side’s skipper in 2018, 13 years after he made his debut. In addition
to his batting abilities, Assad can be a productive off-spin bowler and can be beneficial in
white-ball cricket.
For now, every Papua new Guinea fan is eagerly waiting for 2nd June 2024, as this is the date on which Papua New Guinea cricket team will play their first match of World Cup 2024 against West Indies.
