India is scheduled to play West Indies for 2 home tests. West Indies which used to be the number 1 team in 70s and 80s, has been going downhill since, and while there are some good batsman in their side in the form of Shai Hope and few others, the team doesn’t even look good on the papers.

Here we look at the highest runs scored by an Indian batsman against West Indies in test cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar, 236* (Chennai, Dec 1983)
This was the Indian Test record at the time and his 30th Test hundred, taking him past Bradman’s 29. India declared at 451/8 and the match was drawn.

Sunil Gavaskar, 220 (Port of Spain, Apr 1971)
He also scored 124 in the same match, part of his 774-run debut series. That 1971 tour brought India their first series win in the Caribbean.

Wasim Jaffer, 212 (St John’s, Jun 2006)
His first Test double, more than 500 minutes at the crease. Set up 521/6 declared and won Player of the Match as the game ended in a draw.

Dilip Sardesai, 212 (Kingston, Feb 1971)
Came when India were 75/5 and lifted them to 387. First Indian double outside India and the spark for the 1971 series win.

Virat Kohli, 200 (North Sound, Jul 2016)
His maiden Test double led to victory by an innings and 92 runs. A key stand with R Ashwin kept the pressure on West Indies.
