Former Indian captain Virat Kohli played a match-winning innings of 77 runs against Punjab Kings and guided RCB to its first win of the 2024 IPL season. Chasing a target of 177 Kohli started aggressively by hitting Sam Curran for four fours in the first over of the innings and raced to a score of 33 in no time only to slow down a bit in the middle overs. But his innings provided a platform for RCB’s win which was achieved in the last over of the match courtesy of some smart batting from Dinesh Karthik who scored 10 runs off the last over against Arshdeep Singh.

Player’s Corner

Kohli who was awarded the Player of the Match award was quite vocal about the positive impact of the two-month-long break before the IPL due to personal reasons he had on his performance on the field

“We were not in the country (talking about his break). We were in a place where people were not recognising us. Just time together as a family, just to feel normal for two months – Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

“Of course having two kids, things become totally different from a family perspective. Just the ability to be together, the connections you make with your older child. Couldn’t have been more grateful to God for the opportunity to spend time with the family. It’s an amazing experience to just be another person on the road and not be recognised,” he added.

The Match

RCB will now face KKR in its second home game this season and the match promises to be a hard-fought contest as both the teams are coming after winning their previous matches respectively.
