Coronavirus disease has wreaked havoc all around the world by taking a toll on the lives of people. Over the past two years many people have lost their loved ones due to contagious and highly dangerous virus. In this article we shall talk about those cricketers who have lost their family members because of being infected with this lethal virus.

PIYUSH CHAWLA – The world cup winning leg spinner who played for Indian National team at the age of 18 lost his father Pramod Kumar Chawla due to the complications as a result of Covid-19. He was a part of India Under 19 world cup squad and got recognised due to his all rounder ability made his debut for India in a test match against England in 2006. He is one of the few players who was a part of world cup winning squads of both 2007 and 2011 world cup. He played an instrumental role in Natwest series of 2007 by trapping English batters with his bowling.

CHETAN SAKARIYA – The lean left arm seamer who recently shot to fame after giving impressive performances for Rajasthan Royals in IPL lost his father Kanjibhai Sakariya due to coronavirus. Soon after gaining prominence Chetan faced a huge roadblock due to the untimely demise of his father. His performance in the IPL also earned him India cap as he made debut for India in ODIs as well as T20s in series against Sri lanka. He fulfilled the absence of left arm pacer Indian bowling attack.Let’s hope that he has a bright future as he is just 23 years old.

VEDA KRISHNAMURTHY – The right arm batter of Indian Women’s team who is famous for her power hitting faced a major loss as she lost both her sister Vatsala Shivkumar due to Covid. Soon after the demise of her sister, her mother Cheluvamba Devi was also diagnosed with Coronavirus and ultimately succumbed to it. This came as a huge blow for her as she also developed mental health issues and took some time off cricket. We hope that she quickly overcomes this huge loss as her finishing abilities are a threat to opposition.

RAHUL SHARMA – The right arm leg spinner who represented India in 4 ODIs and 2 T20Is also lost his father to Coronavirus. He impressed the national selectors with his performance in IPL for Pune Warriors India by taking 14 wickets in the season which earned him a national call. In 2012 he was caught red handed at a rave party and remained out of the team for a year but he was again selected in the team as he got backing from BCCI and other players. After 2013 he has not performed well in the limited opportunities that he got.

CHETAN CHAUHAN– The right handed opening batter who represented India in 40 tests and 7 ODIs died due to COVID-19 at the age of 73. He along with Sunil Gavaskar formed a formidable opening pair for India in test matches as they scored more than 3000 runs together in the 1970s. He later turned into a politician by joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was selected as MP from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh.
