Test cricket is considered the difficult of formats in cricket. There are no fielding rules, you get to see reverse swing, and red ball doing all sort of things, are some of the factors which play crucial role in making this form of cricket, as toughest.
While some cricketers found success in T20 or ODI cricket, test cricket is different ball game. Here is the list of 4 Indian cricketers who played only one test for India, should they have been given second chance, well that’s a different story. Enjoy the list.
Karn Sharma – Recently seen bowling some leg breaks for RCB in IPL 2023, Karn Sharma has impeccable domestic record with 230 wickets and 2518 runs at an average of 27.80 and 24.21 respectively. 9 years back, way back in 2014, he was called up as lone spinner to play against Australia, in Australia.
While he managed to take 4 wickets in total, but his bowling was simply unimpressive. Going at a run-rate of 4.33 and almost 6 runs per over for 15 overs in second innings, Karn Sharma knew he had made mess of the golden chance he got, and he may never step into international cricket in white colors.
Robin Singh – Born in Trinidad and Tobago which is not in India, but in WestIndies, Robin Singh debuted for India at balanced age of 25, but was soon dropped. After 7 years of struggle, playing for India in domestic circuit and overseas leagues, he was called back again at critical age of 32 for a cricketer.
While he had a successful career as an ODI batsman, playing in 136 matches, no need to mention his fielding heroics and dedication on field, his only test match came against Zimbabwe in 1998 in harare in which he only managed to score 27 runs in total.
Naman Ojha– The handsome wicketkeeper batsman from Ujjain, also managed to play only one test for India. With India finding Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the answer to wicketkeeper, and then later as captain in all formats, Naman Ojha managed to tick the box of playing test cricket, and ODI cricket for India, playing only 1 match in both format.
While he was a great cricketer, a little bit more confident of his abilities could have done wonder for him. For now he is enjoying his time playing for India legends.
Vinay Kumar – The last on the list is Ranganath Vinay Kumar. Hailing from Karnataka, with 504 wickets to his tally in 139 first class matches, it will be understatement to call Vinay Kumar the “domestic giant of Indian Cricket”. While he would have surely wanted to put on similar performances for India in international cricket, 73 runs in 15 overs for 1 wicket at economy rate of 5.61 at one of the best venues for pace bowling, infamous “Perth” in Australia, that was the last time he put on white colors for India in international cricket.
