Mukul Choudhary has announced his arrival at the big stage by taking his team home against KKR with an astonishing innings of 50 runs which included 7 power packed sixes.

The 21 year old who was just playing his second night match, and he looked in no discomfort and displayed a calm presence on the field much like his idol, the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Mukul comes from the city of Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. Let’s look at some of the unique facts about this city in Rajasthan:

1)Jhunjhunu location: Jhunjhunu is 250 kms away from Delhi and around 180 kms from Jaipur. The district shares border with Haryana and the famous BITS Pilani institute is just 40 kms away from Jhunjhunu district.

The city has its own railway station, named Jhunjhunu Railway station but does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is Jaipur international airport.

2)Name:  Jhunjhunu district was named in the memory of a Jat named “Jhunjha” or “Jujhar Singh Nehra”. Jujhar Singh Nehra was a prominent figure from the Nehra gotra born in 1664 AD, and the town and subsequent district take their name from him.

3)Mahabharath connection: According to mythology, after the Pandavas won the Mahabharata war, they felt immense guilt for killing their kinsmen (Kauravas). They visited various places to seek redemption and finally came to Lohargal, where they bathed in the Surya Kund and washed their weapons. It is believed that their weapons dissolved in the water, giving the place the name “Lohargal” (meaning ‘iron melts’).

It takes 55 minutes to travel to Lohargal from Jhunjhunu.

4)Colourful Havelis: The havelis were built by Indian Traders who became rich by trading with East India company. They used their houses to show their status and lifestyle, the walls are covered with fresco paintings showing Lord Krishna stories, daily life scenes, historical events, and even things like early trains and cars.

5)Army connection: Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan is renowned as a “Soldiers District” or “Brave Land” providing a massive, historic, and ongoing contribution to the Indian Armed Forces. It is considered one of the highest contributors of military personnel, with over 100,000 personnel, 50,000 active and 50,000 veterans serving the country.
