While cricket is deemed to be a gentleman’s game, some of the cricketers brought disgrace to the sport with their off-field behaviour. They were involved in a few disgusting antics leading to a lot of embarrassment both for themselves as well as their fans. Today in this article lets discuss five such instances where players were involved in off field controversies.
The first name in the list is of Chris Gayle. During the Big Bash match back in 2015-2016, Chris Gayle was interviewed by Mel McLaughlin. Chris thought to be a bit flirty and “friendly” with her which allegedly led him into getting to give a fine of $10,000. The whole fiasco happened because during the interview he said to the interviewer, “To see your eyes for the first time is nice. Hopefully, we can have a drink afterward. Don’t blush baby.” This comment was not taken soundly by cricket fans across tbe globe and he received a lot of hate for it.
The second name in the list is of Virat Kohli staring at Archana Vijaya’s jeans. A picture during the IPL 2017 went viral leading to a massive debate. During an interview with sports anchor Archana Vijaya, Virat was seen staring at the ripped jeans of the interviewer. However, it was later clarified by Archana that Kohli was looking at the cue card as he tried to cheat during the rapid fire round. Yet, it left Virat seriously embarrassed as there were many critical comments about him.
The third name in the list is of Hardik Pandya. Pandya’s misogynistic comments on the talk show Koffee with Karan objectifying women led to a massive controversy in recent times. His unthoughtful words weren’t accepted by the Indian audience and he had to bear to the brunt of their anger. Along with his teammate KL Rahul, the all-rounder had to be sent back home midway through the Australian tour.
The fourth name in the list is of Yuzvendra Chahal. He tried to make another “friend” online, by replying to her story. Though we can’t blame him, since he might be a dinosaur on social media. When the model called him out, he reported that he did not reply to her story. But his friend did and also asked her how was she doing. He was allegedly also accused of tweeting sexual messages to random girls online back in 2012.
The fifth name in the list is of Aditya Tare. In 2012, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) banned Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan from entering Wankhede stadium for five years as a result of his scuffle with security guards after the game between Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. Aditya Tare, who was the wicket-keeper batsman in Mumbai Indians, had tweeted against Shah Rukh Khan back then. Drunk Shah Rukh banned at Wankhede for life,” he had written in a tweet apart from expressing extreme happiness which he deleted seven years later
