Rajasthan Royals is at the top of the table with 6 wins in 7 games they have played so far. Todays game it took the masterclass of Jos Butler to chase down the massive total of 223 runs, before the thunderstorm of Sunil Narine, the batsman.
Despite the win, Rajasthan Royals have some thinking to be done for their next game, lets look at the two negatives and one positive from todays game for Rajasthan Royals.
The negatives :-
1)Ravi Ashwin form :– The veteran 37 year old Ravichandran Ashwin is going wicketless in lot of games this season. Today also he got one short of giving away 50 runs in his spell of 4 overs.
It was not about just the runs, but the way Ashwin was bowling to Narine. Just trying to keep away from Narine’s hitting arc and bowling on just the inside of wide line. Such defensive bowling from their veteran spinner can be cause of concern for team management with IPL entering in the second half of the tournament.
Ashwin has been expensive and wicketless a lot of times in this years IPL. Rajasthan Royals signed the uncapped Tanush Kotian as replacement for Adam Zampa who pulled out of last moment for IPL.
Tanush Kotian got featured in one match so far but captain Samson couldn’t trust him for even one over as he did not get to bowl in the match.
It will be tough for Ashwin and RR if Ashwin keep on bowling such defensive lines as the batting quality in the teams of IPL has always been on the high and batsman will certainly look to take down the veteran off spinner for as many runs as they can, in coming matches.
2)Dhruv Jurel inconsistency:- Todays match could turn out to be the last match for Dhurv Jurel in IPL 2024 as he failed yet again after the dismal performance in the last game too.
Rajasthan Royals has Vidarbha Shubham Dubey at the price of 5.8 crores in this year IPL and he may get some long run in the second half of the tournament after Dhruv Jurel not putting any performances with the bat for his team.
The positive :-
Rovman Powell took down Sunil Narine for 16 of the 3 balls and he played a superb knock in the last game too along with Hetmyer.
Powell and Hetmyer in the middle order can do wonders for Rajasthan Royals as they have in form Butler, Samson and Parag at the top order.
Rajasthan Royals certainly will also want Yashashvi Jaiswal to bat longer, who has gotten out cheaply so far in the tournament. May be he can play little less aggressive in the power play in few games to come, to allow himself to give more time in the middle and find his rhythm again.
